Clean Energy & Sanitation - Global

Clean Water

According to the United Nations only 24% of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa has access to safe drinking water. Almost half of all people in this world who are drinking water from unprotected sources live in Sub-Saharan Africa, where the burden of collecting water lies mainly on women and girls, many whom spend more than 30 minutes on each journey to fetch water. Without safe, accessible water and sanitation, these people are likely to face multiple challenges, including poor health and living conditions, malnutrition, and lack of opportunities for education and employment.

4-Good International has a strong desire and vision for bringing clean-water access to more people around the world. Our vision is to start with clean water development in Larteh, Ghana the home of founder Justice Sullivan while envisioning Larteh to just be a start to a movement that will hopefully give more and more people in Sub-Saharan Africa the dignity they deserve by having access to basic necessities like clean water.

Sanitation Services

Sanitation facilities safely separate human waste from human contact, but when people don’t have access to safe toilets, they are forced to go in the open, and exposed human waste is transferred back into people’s food and water resources. According to Global Citizen about one-fourth of those defecating in the open in the world live in sub-Saharan Africa and they spend an average of 2.5 days per year trying to find a private location to defecate. Women spend extra time looking for a safe place to go and can experience gender-based violence in the process.

4-Good International understands that not every life in Sub-Saharan Africa can be saved, but at the same time we know some can. We want to provide human dignity through the meeting of basic needs to people all over the world. Access to basic sanitation services should be a right for all people and 4-Good International intends to make a dent in that need in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Electricity

According to OECD Sub-Saharan Africa has the lowest energy access rates in the world. Roughly 600 million people lack electricity which accounts for about 54% of the population of Sub-Saharan Africa. Proper access to electricity creates sustainability for economic growth, improvement of overall human health and well-being, and allows individuals to live a more productive life educationally and occupationally. 4-Good International understands the infrastructure challenges that exist in third-world countries especially within Sub-Saharan Africa. However, we believe with the incredible steps forward that have been created by clean energy technology and solar generated initiatives that there is a solution for every community in every country and we are dedicated to find it!
